A teacher and a student work at a table in the library. Mrs. Cozart works with Dennis M. as he perfects his writing.

Mrs. Terri Cozart has been selected as Greendale Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Cozart has twenty-two years of teaching experience in grades 1, 2, and 3, and is currently in her first year as our reading specialist. Her love for children is clearly demonstrated each day as she greets students all over the building by name; it is obvious that she loves to spend her day with kids! She says that her favorite part of being a teacher is “helping kids get excited about learning and reading.” She does just that, working with students who grow from reluctant readers to excited readers! Former students stop by Mrs. Cozart’s classroom each morning just to get their day started before they head to their current homerooms. One former student uses the words, “energetic,” “motherly,” “fun,” and “a good teacher” to describe Mrs. Cozart, descriptions that many teachers aspire to have applied to us. Mrs. Cozart notes that she has been influenced by Mrs. Cathy Shelton, another excellent Washington County teacher who mentored Mrs. Cozart and inspired her at the very beginning of her teaching career. When asked what advice she would give to beginning teachers, Mrs. Cozart says, “Be energetic. Be creative. Remember what it is like to be a child.” Every person who works with children would do well to heed this wonderful advice.
