Three young men and a young woman standing at a table on which are stacks of plastic bags and cans of tuna. Holston 4-H members create an assembly line to pack bags for "Backpack Unite".

Twelve members of the Holston High School 4-H club recently participated in a community service project. Club members packed 1800 food bags for elementary students in Russell and Washington counties. This project was a part of the United Way’s “Backpack Unite” program designed to assist elementary school students. Backpacks Unite delivers nutritious prepackaged food in order to supplement the student's needs over a weekend. Each student in the program receives a bag once per month. The 4-H club members enjoyed being a part of this program. Not only did they have a chance to help their community, but this also gave them a chance to use their organizational skills to accomplish a collective goal.
