Distance Learning

We currently offer multiple courses through our Cisco telecommunications system and Tandberg portable teleconferencing equipment that is placed in three of our four high schools. The reception quality is as good, or better, than cable-TV reception. They can be connected with multiple classrooms so that one teacher can actually be teaching at several schools. The teacher can see and interact with each of the classrooms as if he or she were physically there including broadcasting computer screens, and handwritten text. In addition, the students can see and interact with the students at the other schools.

Washington County Schools also participate in the Linwood A. Holton Governor's School, which is an internet-based classroom. Classes are taught over our network with the blackboard becoming the computer. Instructors can teach advanced subjects to many schools at one time. Classes can also be archived for later viewing.
