John S. Battle Student Named Maxpreps Player of the Week 04-28-2016

Two boys playing soccer.On April 15, John Battle High was informed that senior soccer player Aspen O. was selected as the state of Virginia Maxpreps player of the week for the week of March 28th thru April 1st.  The Trojans played Ridgeview High School on March 29th and Aspen scored 4 goals and contributed 1 assist.

Lincoln L. Wins Culinary Arts District Competition 04-27-2016

Tail Waggin' Tutors Visit GES 04-26-2016

1st grade students in a circle with small dog in the center.First graders had a special treat on Friday, April 15th.  We were visited by some four legged animals….the Tail Waggin’ Tutors! Students were very excited to get to know the dogs and their owners by asking the owners questions about the dogs.

Book Swap at Abingdon Elementary! 04-26-2016

Books laying on library tables.April is School Library Month with the theme “School Libraries Transform Learning.” National Library Week is April 10-16, 2016.  Abingdon Elementary School library helped create much thinking and
celebrating of books during National Library Week.  Each morning, Mrs. Hobbs, our librarian, came on the morning news with a book trivia question of the day.  Five fortunate students won a gift card to Books-a-Million!

2016 GATE Camp Registration 04-25-2016

Dear GATE Parents/Guardians,

Your child has a wonderful opportunity to participate in the 2016 Washington County Gifted Summer Camp!  The camp will be held June 15, 16, 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Neff Center in Abingdon.  This is a

Damascus Middle School Student Kai B. Wins Art Contest 04-25-2016

A self-portrait done with ebony pencil.Damascus Middle School eighth-grade student Kai B. was recently named the middle school division winner in the county-wide Virginia School Boards Association Art Contest.  His self-portrait, based on a 5 x 7 black and white photograph taken by his art teacher Ms. Jennifer Smith, is an ebony pencil drawing created using the grid method.

Local Musicians Visit John S. Battle High School 04-25-2016

Culinary Arts Bake the Competition at District SkillsUSA 04-20-2016

Three girls who won a culinary competition stand beside each other. Culinary Arts students recently competed in the annual District VIII SkillsUSA Commercial Baking competition.  The competition was a timed event requiring each student to prepare multiple baked items including: yeast breads, muffins, cakes, pies, cookies and muffins.

WES Students Awarded in 4-H “Share the Fun” Program 04-19-2016

Students standing and holding up their ribbons.Watauga Elementary 4-H members held their annual “Share the Fun” talent program. 18 members from the fourth and fifth grades performed.  Talent acts included: variety, dance, instrumental, drama, combination, and vocal.  Each contestant had four minutes to perform in either an individual or team act.  The youth were awarded points in the following areas: Chosen material, talent, audience response, creativity, showmanship, and their costume and props.

WMS Eighth Graders EXCEL with Monopoly 04-18-2016

Two male students are playing games on their computers.Eighth grade students in Mrs. Lyle’s Computer Solutions class apply real world applications and have fun doing it!  Each nine weeks grading period the students spend approximately eight days learning to use Excel Software.
