“Battle at DMS” Results in Lots of Winners

Three students playing Bingo in a cafeteria. In celebration of the “Battle at Bristol” to be held the next day, Damascus Middle School held the “Battle at DMS” on Friday, September 9.  Students, faculty, and staff donned their University of Tennessee or Virginia Tech apparel and played Bingo during their lunch blocks.

Prizes were a variety of University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech paraphernalia, including puzzles, refillable cups, and hats.  Seventh-grader John M. won a huge container filled with Tootsie Rolls, thanks to his accurate estimate of the number of pieces of candy inside.  Principal Scott Keith enjoyed his role as the Bingo caller.  He began each lunch block with “Enter Sandman,” during which Virginia Tech fans demonstrated how to get pumped up for a game, and concluded each block with “Rocky Top,” during which University of Tennessee fans showed their spirit.  A special thanks goes to Ms. Darlene French and her wonderful cafeteria helpers Ms. Connie Carty, Ms. Daisy Hawthorne, Ms. Joyce Testerman, and Ms. Eula Widener for providing a fun way for DMS to show support for our teams!
