Abingdon Elementary Fifth Grade Takes a Trip Back in Time!

AES Fifth Graders visit Rocky Mount MuseumOn Friday, September 26, the fifth grade at Abingdon Elementary School took a trip back in time to Rocky Mount Museum in Tennessee. Students began their tour with a video that introduced the Cobb family who made their home available to Governor Blount in 1791.

The rest of the day was spent visiting the museum and taking part in a colonial craft or activity. Costumed interpreters led the students to explore the Cobb home, kitchen, and garden. Classes held were candle dipping, pewter casting, fireplace cooking, and eighteenth century games. At the close of the visit, students made comments that indicated that it would be really cool to live without electricity and indoor plumbing…well, maybe for just a day!
