Abingdon High School wins Young Playwrights Festival

5 students holding a trophy.Congratulations to students at Abingdon High School for earning top spots in this year's Young Playwrights Festival sponsored by Barter Theatre. Out of nearly 400 plays and over 600 playwrights, Abingdon had three winners, including a play which earned first place accolades as well as a staged reading by the Barter Players.

Senior Jamie K. won First Place and $500 for her play "Statues," which chronicles a conciliatory meeting between a Confederate and Union soldier in the forests of Virginia. Sophomore John F. was a finalist (Top 20) with his play "The Impossible Decision." Seniors Claire A., Alex M., and Mhari R. were semi-finalists with the play "The Holy Trinity." All winners are students in Dr. Hurd's Creative Writing class.
