Cody C. Second at State SkillsUSA Telecommunications Cabling Competition

Cody C., a senior at the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center and a first year CISCO Networking Academy student, placed second in Telecommunications Cabling at the Virginia SkillsUSA  State Leadership Conference and Skills Championships held April 16th in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

This competition tests  worldwide industry standards for data and voice connections, physical and logical networks, and signal transmission. Contestants demonstrate skills in reading network design documentation, parts list, setup and purchase, pulling and mounting cable, choosing wiring closets, patch panel installation and termination, and installing jacks and cable testing. Category 5/6e cable, and fiber optic cable are used during the competition. The contest stresses safety, working effectively in group environments, and customer service skills.
