Holston’s Munsey Receives Coveted Award
Thu, August 31, 2017
Once again, Holston Business Teacher, Joy Munsey, has been recognized for her dynamic teaching and innovation. Ms. Munsey has been named as the Virginia Credit Union’s Teacher of the Quarter. It is an award that is designated for K-12 teachers in Virginia who teach Economics and Personal Finance.
The award has special value because it is a new form of recognition for Virginia’s teachers. Ms. Munsey is only the second educator to receive the accolade since the award was launched in January of this year. In establishing the award, the Virginia Credit Union wanted to promote personal economic life skills for students and acknowledge the teachers who are leaders in their field. Munsey’s curriculum prepares students by giving them a foundation in insurance, money management, acquiring major items such as automobiles and real estate, and developing a personal budget.
As a result of her years of dedicated leadership and service, Ms. Munsey has been chosen as the county’s newest administrator. She will assume her duties as the assistant principal at Glade Spring and Damascus Middle Schools in early September. HHS’s faculty and staff congratulate Joy on both her award and her new position.
