Holston Agriculture Teacher Receives Top National Recognition
Tue, January 24, 2017
How do you follow being recognized as the best in your profession at the state level? You do it by being selected as the best in the nation. Holston High School Agriculture teacher Sarah Scyphers was named the 2017 winner of the Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award by the American Farm Bureau Federation. This follows her selection as the Virginia winner in 2016.
The competition, which was held in Phoenix, Arizona, featured farmers and ranchers under 35 who do not derive the majority of their income from farming. In winning, she will receive her choice of either a 2017 Chevrolet
Silverado or another GM vehicle of equal value. In addition, she will receive free registration to FUSION, a leadership conference that will be held in February in Pittsburgh. She also will be featured in an upcoming publication of the Virginia Farm Bureau News. Sarah and her husband Aaron raise sheep and cattle on their farm in Meadowview. She believes that the self-sufficiency students learn in Agriculture and Horticulture classes will improve their lives and help break the cycle of poverty in rural areas.
Congratulations to Mrs. Scyphers on her outstanding achievement.
