Holston Band Cinches Major Competition Win

Members of a high school band, dressed in full uniform, stand on a grassy football field.Fall is the time for major band competitions, and the HHS Band once again made their presence known. On October 4th, the band squared off with other band in the region at the Lonesome Pine Band Festival at the Central High School Field in Wise, Virginia. It was the fourth time in the last six years that HHS had entered this event. A the end of the day, Holston's musicians had taken a majority of the awards.

Among the awards claimed by the band were:  1st place in Music, 1st place in Marching, 1st place in Drum Major, 1st place in Guard.  In addition, the HHS band was declared to be the AAA Champion and the Grand Champion of the Day. Two individual members, Morgan K. and Grayson B., won the Soloist Awards for the Day.  

The Lonesome Pine Festival was one of five major band competitions that band director Uley Daniels and his students entered. Leading up to the event, students committed themselves to hours of nightly practice.  Because of their accomplishment, the band's well deserved legacy continues.
