Johnny Appleseed STEM Experiment at Valley Institute

Students are tasting apples.Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Justus' Pre-K classrooms conducted two S.T.E.M. experiments on Johnny Appleseed Day.  Our students learned what keeps apples freshest the longest after soaking the apple slices in vinegar, club soda, and honey water for 30 minutes.

Club soda kept it the freshest and did not give the apples a funny taste!  We also charted which apple, red Mackintosh or green Granny Smith, tasted the best according to our student's pallets after tasting each.  Granny Smith won!  Later, our classes made sequencing books on the stages of planting an apple tree and counted apple seeds by 2's.  What a great day in Pre-K!
