Magnets are Everywhere!

Two Children trying to pull two magnets apart with 4 children sitting around them.Did you know that our planet Earth is one gigantic magnet? Second graders at High Point Elementary are learning just that! Our science focus right now is on "magnets" and we are all very excited to be experimenting with different kinds.

Students are learning and explaining the difference between "repelling" and "attracting" magnets. We now know that in order for magnets to attract each other, opposite poles need to be facing toward one another. Do you know which materials will attract a magnet? If not, ask a second grader at High Point! He or she will tell you that anything made of metal will attract a magnet!
