Meadowview Elementary Second Graders Work on the Wall

Three second grade students point to tens rods and ones blocks on a school wall to practice learning about place value. The second grade teachers at Meadowview Elementary have had their students doing a new job.  Several students have been spotted working on the wall!

Unlike construction workers, these workers don’t need hammers, nails, paint, or any other supplies you might find at your local hardware store.  The only tool these students need for their work is the most important tool of all:  their brains!  Since second grade has been working on numbers and number sense in math, a portion of the wall in the hall outside their classrooms is now a huge place value work mat.  The students get the opportunity to practice place value on a much larger scale and in a different location, which is fun for them, and conducive to learning.
