MES First Graders Cooperate and Communicate to Build the Tallest Tower

Three first grade students from Meadowview Elementary sit around a tower built from toothpicks and marshmallows.Meadowview First Graders got to experience the life of an engineer during science class. They used marshmallows and toothpicks to create solid figures like the ones they were studying in math class.

Some groups planned and worked to build the tallest tower. Students utilized communication skills, problem solving, and spatial reasoning as they built. They also got to engage in some friendly competition along the way. After all this hard work, they were rewarded twice over: once with a sense of accomplishment and once with extra marshmallows!
