Month of October Book Talk

A female student in a Batman shirt holds a book.On October 31st, Wallace Middle School sixth grade students in Mrs. Copeland’s language arts class shared their novels in a book talk. The novels were carefully chosen and read during the month of October.

The students were given questions to answer while reading their books, such as their favorite event in the story, events that surprised them, made them angry, or satisfied, and so on. They had to share the title, author, genre, and why they selected the book. In the project, they had to write a brief summary without giving away the ending. They rated their book and made recommendations for who should read the book. Finally, they presented their book in our class room book talk.  It was a fun project and may be an ongoing seasonal project for my classes.
