VDOT Official Speaks to Holston FBLA

A man standing with 3 students and smiling.Carl Reedy, the Assistant VDOT District Administrator for Washington County and the surrounding area, recently spoke to the HHS Future Business Leaders of America.  Mr. Reedy had the honor of being a faculty member at Holston when the school opened in 1964.  He remained there for the next four years, teaching Biology and coaching.  Mr. Reedy made a career change after his time as a teacher, transitioning into the Virginia Department of Transportation.  There he worked his way up the career ladder.  He now has one of the most prominent jobs in the department.

He returned to HHS on December 1st to enlighten the students about career opportunities within VDOT.  While most people think of VDOT utilizing road crew members and flag men, the agency also employs accountants, secretaries, administrators, engineers, environmentalists, surveyors, right of way specialists, property appraisers, and maintenance personnel.  It is a multi-faceted agency.  Mr. Reedy informed the students about the mentorship and internship programs the department offers as well.

When asked to reflect on the presentation, Senior Club members Brianna V. and Abby H. stated that "It was great to learn more about VDOT", while FBLA Secretary Mia A. said, "There's a lot more career opportunities involved in VDOT than I realized."
