V.I.E.S. Third Graders "Love" Math

Students holding candy hearts.Valley Institute 3rd graders learned how much they LOVED math!  Students celebrated the Valentine holiday with candy hearts math activities.

In small groups, students sorted, counted, graphed and estimated the number of candy hearts in their package.  After collecting their data, students then estimated the perimeter and area of a heart, found the actual perimeter and area, and then used their date to create fractions.  Lastly, students  used fractions to create addition and subtraction sentences and order their fraction on a number line from least to greatest.  Who says learning can’t be SWEET!
