The Wallace Middle School Chorus Celebrates the Holidays

A group of students are getting ready to singOn Thursday, December 11, the Wallace Middle School Combined Choruses presented their annual holiday concert. The chorus, made up of seventh and eighth grade students, is under the direction of Mrs. Monica Alderman and was accompanied by Ms. Marva Wheeler. 

The students presented a 6-song concert that began with "Hodie Christus" by Darla Eshelman. The piece set the tone for the concert with a lovely melody, proclaiming "today Christ is born." The chorus followed this up with two selections from popular movies: The Polar Express and The Grinch. "Where Are You Christmas" (Will Jennings, James Horner, and Mariah Carey) included two solos sung by Emily O. and Abbey L.It was preceded by "The Polar Express Medley" by Teena Chinn, which included solos by Shawn S., David N., and Madison CThe Wallace Chorus then transitioned into the traditional Hebrew song "Shalom Chaverim" (Patrick M. Liebergen), and was accompanied by two former Wallace Middle School students, Amanda W. and Sydney L., on the flute and congas.  The classic "Ukranian Bell Song" (Leontovich and Ehret) began with the sopranos in the familiar "Hark!  How the bells, Sweet Silver Bells, All Seem to Say, Throw Cares Away."  The final piece of the night was Audrey Snyder's "A Festive Christmas Celebration," which included several familiar Christmas carols and ended with the favorite "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."  The concert was well-received and the spirit of Christmas was felt by all.
