A month ago, these students were given an opportunity to choose a short reading, not exceeding three minutes, from one of their favorite books, stories or poems. They were given directions on dramatic reading and information about paralanguage from Mrs. Crystal Peak, 4-H extension agent on youth development.

Students were encouraged to practice their chosen pieces independently throughout the month of November and several classroom provided time for “dress rehearsals” early this week. Points of emphasis were placed on the ten kinds of paralanguage and ability to communicate effectively. Even though many of the students expressed their nervousness prior to reading, they ended the day with a sense of accomplishment and a job well done! Awards will be given out to everyone who participates and blue ribbon will be selected to compete at the county contest.
