DESCRIPTION:  PC110 - Files and Folders provides a complete training program for introducing and teaching all the essential and specific concepts and components of utilizing computer file and folder options.  The lesson format  introduces, explains, and then applies the content  information in a practical context. All of the lesson content is presented in digital audio with color and  animation throughout the entire curriculum, with the exception of the exercises and the quizzes. The quizzes contain true/false and multiple choice questions. Other features of the program include: Operational Guide, Index, Table of Contents, Frequently- Asked Questions, and Records.  The Operational Guide provides an audio description of the structure of each section and displays colorful graphics and diagrams to review each navigational tool in the course.  The Index, Table of Contents, and FAQ'S can be used for review and practice of specific topics.  The Records option compiles status reports which outline the lesson and exercises which have been completed, the number of times the student has "visited" the lesson or exercise, the time spent on each lesson, and the quiz scores.  The PC110 - Files and Folders curriculum provides twenty-five lessons, seven application exercises, and three quizzes.

EVALUATION SUMMARY:  PC110 - Files and Folders is the fifth program in the Computer Literacy Series from Teknimedia, and it continues the tradition of software excellence in presentation, interactivity, and curriculum.  It can be successfully used by teachers for professional development and by adult students who read at the fifth grade level and above.  We have effectively used this program with students in our adult education,  high school alternative, employability, and vocational classes.  The secret of this series success is that users are immediately comfortable with the program because it is entertaining and extremely easy to use.  Teachers and students continually comment that the color, graphics, sound and video are outstanding and make learning an enjoyable, multimedia experience.  Teachers appreciate the program because students learn independently and at their own pace.  The company now offers a home version at an affordable price so students can practice at home and make learning a family affair.  The education version has the additional record keeping features and includes web access to teacher's guides and certificates. Teachers should note that the quizzes are available online and can be printed and used in classroom instruction or for documentation purposes. Curriculum correlations for PC110 - Files and Folders are easily accessible online to the National Educational Technology Standards, the Virginia Standards of Learning:  Grade 5 and Grade 8 Computer/Technology Standards, and to the Virginia Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel.   As adult educators, it is very important that we teach our adult learners skills that are transferable to their lives.  There is no question that the computer technology skills taught in PC110 - Files and Folders are skills that adults will transfer and use in their homes and in their careers.
