SPECIFIC SKILLS: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of decimals.

DESCRIPTION: Arithmetic Doctor presents three options at the beginning of each diskette. The student must choose one of the following: (1) Placement Test, (2) Drill and Practice, or (3) Worksheet. The Placement Test option will present students with ability. Once a level is passed, the student may move up to the next level. If the student fails a level, the student must decide whether to review and practice or have a worksheet printed. In the Drill and Practice section, all problems at a particular level are presented before success or failure is determined. The teacher may control the number of problems presented during the test and the drill, the passing percentage for completion of a level, and the number of problems in the worksheet. These parameters can also be preset.

EVALUATION SUMMARY: This program offers a variety of options both to the student and the teacher. It can be used by teachers as a diagnostic/prescriptive tool, and by students to drill and practice their skills, or as a tutorial for skill development. It is a comprehensive program, because it offers between 12 and 20 levels of difficulty for each operation. There is very little reading involved, so it may be used with low level readers or limited English speaking students. Students enjoy printing their own worksheets. We found that many students who disliked math, enjoyed using this program.
