SPECIFIC SKILLS: Use of capital letter.

DESCRIPTION: This program consists of one diskette which covers capitalization in letter headings, addresses, quotations, and names. The student reads through each screen of tutorial material at his or her own space. After the presentation, instructions are given for the series of drill problems. If the student's first attempt is incorrect, a review of the concept being taught is displayed. Should the student error twice, the letter will be capitalized for the user. At the end of the lesson the student is shown a percentage score.

EVALUATION SUMMARY: The tutorial material is clearly written and easy to understand. Students benefit from the immediate review of the rule when an error is made and from the positive reinforcement provided after a correct answer. Some students have difficulty following the directions for correcting capitalization errors in the exercise displayed on the screen. It involves using the left and right arrow keys, the shift, and the return keys. Reproducible activity masters, which aid in the review of the material, are included with this program.
