DESCRIPTION: PC101-Computer Basics provides an interactive and exciting multimedia learning experience for understanding the basics about how computers work. A "Mouse Tutorial" is presented as an option in the beginning of the program. All of the lesson information is presented by digital audio throughout the entire curriculum, with the exception of the four quizzes and the final exam. Other features of the program include: Operational Guide, Index, Table of Contents, Frequently- Asked Questions, and Records. The Operational Guide provides an audio description of the structure of each section and displays colorful graphics and diagrams to review each navigational tool in the course. The Index, Table of Contents, and FAQ'S can be used for review and practice of specific topics. The Records option compiles status reports which outline the lesson and exercises which have been completed, the number of times the student has "visited" the lesson or exercise, the time spent on each lesson, and the quiz scores. The PC101-Computer Basics curriculum provides twenty lessons, four application exercises, four quizzes, and a final exam.
EVALUATION SUMMARY: PC101- Computer Basics is
the second program in the
Computer Literacy Series from Teknimedia. I recommend PC100
(the first program) for all adult education students to use, howeverPC101
is
much more technical and advanced in its coverage of the basics of computers.
So I would only recommend this program for adults who who read at a minimum
of 7.0, and who have a definite interest in learning the technical
aspects of how and why a computer operates. All the information is
presented through digital audio and the animation and colorful graphics
make the program extremely interesting and easy to use. It is a great
program to use with our adult students who are thinking about purchasing
their own computers and want to learn what all the technical aspects are
about. Of course this program could be integrated into a curriculum
centering around the "Equipped for the Future" standards by preparing
adults in their role as a consumer. PC101 can also be used
as a professional development tool for teachers and administrators who
need a basic computer technology training course. PC101 has
been aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment Program and
correlations are available for the Technology Standards for Grades Five
through Eight and for the Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel.
Many vocational education programs have effectively integrated
PC101
into
their clerical and computer technician training curriculums.
PC101is
an excellent, multimedia learning tool which provides a thorough foundation
in computer technology which all students and teachers will need in the
future.
