Susan has been Director at the Virginia Adult Education and Literacy Center (VAELC) since 1994.  Her responsibilities include planning, staffing and securing funding for the organization.  VAELC develops partnerships with state and national agencies and organizations and with business. VAELC is a professional development resource for adult education and literacy providers funded by the Virginia Department of Education.  The Center operates a library, clearinghouse, and toll-free information line.  VAELC is a member of LINCS, the national network of state adult literacy centers.

VAELC component projects include:
GTE Links Virginia for Literacy, a workforce development and technology project funded by GTE corporation
Learning Disabilities Training and Dissemination project funded by Literacy Volunteers of America and Laubach International.
The GED Initiative: increasing the number of people taking and passing the GED test in Virginia through distance learning.

Susan has been an adult education teacher and staff developer for over twenty years.  She has a B.A. in English from London University, and an M.A. in Linguistics and TESOL from George Mason University.  At home, she enjoys riding and spending time with her family and her baby granddaughter, Sophie.
