Accomplishments for 2006-2007
- Washington County was awarded District Accreditation status from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.
- Ninety-four percent of Washington County Schools made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). (Seventy percent of Virginia schools met this benchmark.)
- A Math Specialist was employed to assist in guiding math instruction in the middle schools beginning with the 2007-08 school year.
- Two additional art and music teachers were employed at the elementary schools for the 2007-08 school year. Middle school math scores on SOL tests improved by thirty percent.
- Funding sources for the facility plan moved forward. Wireless connections were completed for all elementary, middle and high schools.
- A video conference system was installed for distance learning opportunities.
- Anti-bullying training was expanded to include elementary schools.
- On-line course offerings were expanded at the secondary level.
- Career and Technical Education courses had an increase in the number of students passing industry certifications and earning student selected verified credits.
- The secondary curriculum was expanded to allow for physical fitness to be taught the entire year.
- The school system sought and received broad input from community and staff stakeholders in the continual development and advancement of the strategic plan.
- The utilization of inclusion was expanded to include all schools.
- Staff development opportunities were provided that concentrated on collaboration of teams of teachers.
- Language opportunities were extended into the elementary schools.
