Accomplishments for 2010-2011
- All Washington County Schools are fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Expanded on-line instructional opportunities for all students.
- School and community awareness of cyber bullying was enhanced.
- Student records were made available to parents through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
- 21st Century Skills were emphasized in the curriculum.
- Completed 6 of 8 Phase II facility construction projects.
- Implemented a web-based program to track industry certifications for Career and Technical Education.
- Middle School students were recognized for their reading achievement with a varsity letter.
- All secondary staff received training for implementation of block scheduling.
- New K-12 mathematics textbooks were adopted.
- Modified the elementary daily schedule to allow for more individualized instruction time for students.
- Focused on understanding of career opportunities at the elementary level.
- Created more varieties of assessments including projects and presentations by students.
- Three elementary schools were designated as Title I Distinguished Schools by the Department of Education.
- Damascus Middle School was designated as a national “School to Watch”.
- DARE instruction was expanded into the middle schools.
- More than 150 elementary students were recognized for reading 1 million words or more.
- Implemented the Economics and Personal Finance course as a requirement for the class of 2014.
- Patrick Henry won the Claudia Dotson VHSL Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award.
- All High Schools participated in the VHSL Scholastic Bowl academic activity.
- Additional course offerings were added to high school schedules through the implementation of block scheduling.
- Through careful fiscal management, all full- time contracted employees received a $750 performance bonus near the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
