Initiatives for 2007-2008

  • One-hundred percent of schools will be fully accredited and will make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
  • Mathematics will continue to be a point of emphasis in the curriculum with a goal of 100% pass rates on SOL assessments.
  • Facility construction plans for Phase I will be funded and completed.
  • Appropriate programs for all students with disabilities will be provided.
  • Career and Technical Education will achieve an industry certification pass rate of 100%.
  • Anti-bullying programs will be expanded and implemented at each elementary school.
  • A math specialist will model instructional strategies at all middle schools.
  • All senior students enrolled in the A. Linwood Holton Governor’s School will be provided laptops for instructional purposes.
  • A Partners for Safe Teen Driving program will be established in all secondary schools.
  • Student participation in dual enrollment courses will increase.
  • Intervention by community agencies will be utilized to help improve student attendance from the current 94.5% rate to 97%.
  • Handwriting instruction will be a point of emphasis at the elementary level.
  • Improving literacy skills will be a focus across all content areas.
  • Online testing will be expanded to include all schools.
  • Instruction will be enhanced through increased integration of technology.
  • A self evaluation of the school improvement process will be conducted through in-house visits to selected schools.
