Initiatives for 2009-2010

  • One-hundred percent of schools will be fully accredited and will make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
  • Mathematics will continue to be a point of emphasis in the curriculum with a goal of 100% pass rates on SOL assessments.
  • Begin Phase II of facility construction projects.
  • Self evaluation of school improvement process will be conducted through in-house visits to selected schools.
  • The school system will review and update the Comprehensive Plan.
  • Washington County Public Schools will seek opportunities to expand the curriculum beyond the Standards of Learning.
  • One-hundred percent of Washington County’s students will earn a diploma following the completion of an appropriate program of study.
  • Inclusion opportunities will be expanded to include preschool students.
  • The number of students earning industry certificates and verified credits in career and technical education courses will be increased by five percent.
  • Classroom observations focusing on student engagement will be conducted by the central office management team at all schools.
  • Implement a new division wide student information system.
  • Implement an alternative program utilizing on-line instruction.
  • An AgriScience exploratory program will be offered at two middle schools.
  • Emphasis will be placed on integrating science, technology, engineering and math into the curriculum.
  • Implement a web based program to track student competencies in career and technical education.
  • School and community awareness of cyber bullying will be enhanced through PTA meetings and student programs.
  • Implement an automated system for tracking textbooks.
