Janalyn V., a seventh grader at Wallace Middle School, participated in the 28th Annual Blue Ridge Highlands Regional Science Fair at Radford University. She competed with an experiment entitled "Suck it Up" in the Chemistry and Material Science category.

Six John S. Battle High School students received the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy this year. The test is comprised of four sections: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In order to earn this seal on the diploma, students must demonstrate proficiency in English and a second language.

Katie B., a 2013 graduate of the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center, graduated from with honors from the Appalachian College of Pharmacy on May 4th. Katie became interested in a career as a pharmacist when she completed the pharmacy technician program at WCCTEC.

Between Wednesday, March 20, and Thursday, March 21, each of the four high school bands in Washington County performed for state ratings at the annual VBODA Concert Assessment Event at Virginia High School, Bristol, VA.

On April 16th, a project based learning (PBL) Oceanography class traveled to Meadowview Elementary School to visit Ms. Stoessel’s third grade class. The Patrick Henry High School students were tasked with creating lesson objectives as part of their project; they were in a role of a teacher trying to educate students about coral reef.
