GSMS Students Build and Interact With Lego Robotics 04-28-2016

A boy in a black shirt sitting and making a Lego robot.On April 14, 2016 students from Glade Spring Middle School traveled to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center to participate in a session of LEGO Robotics.  Students were able to use onsite laptops to program their robots to move forward, backwards, and turn in circles.

John S. Battle Student Named Maxpreps Player of the Week 04-28-2016

Two boys playing soccer.On April 15, John Battle High was informed that senior soccer player Aspen O. was selected as the state of Virginia Maxpreps player of the week for the week of March 28th thru April 1st.  The Trojans played Ridgeview High School on March 29th and Aspen scored 4 goals and contributed 1 assist.

Wallace Middle School Students Create Their Own Island 04-28-2016

Seven students stand in front of their island projects.Ever thought about living on your own island?  Students in Mrs. Johnson's math classes at Wallace Middle School designed, created, and named their own island.  This hands-on activity helped to make this VA Standard of Learning come to life.

Lincoln L. Wins Culinary Arts District Competition 04-27-2016

Book Swap at Abingdon Elementary! 04-26-2016

Books laying on library tables.April is School Library Month with the theme “School Libraries Transform Learning.” National Library Week is April 10-16, 2016.  Abingdon Elementary School library helped create much thinking and
celebrating of books during National Library Week.  Each morning, Mrs. Hobbs, our librarian, came on the morning news with a book trivia question of the day.  Five fortunate students won a gift card to Books-a-Million!

Tail Waggin' Tutors Visit GES 04-26-2016

Students were very excited to get to know the dogs and their owners by asking the owners questions about the dogs.

2016 GATE Camp Registration 04-25-2016

Damascus Middle School Student Kai B. Wins Art Contest 04-25-2016

A self-portrait done with ebony pencil.Damascus Middle School eighth-grade student Kai B. was recently named the middle school division winner in the county-wide Virginia School Boards Association Art Contest.  His self-portrait, based on a 5 x 7 black and white photograph taken by his art teacher Ms. Jennifer Smith, is an ebony pencil drawing created using the grid method.

Local Musicians Visit John S. Battle High School 04-25-2016

4 people standing and playing instruments.Recently, local musicians, Adam Graybeal, Jim Graybeal, and CanJoe John, presented a history of the music of the Appalachian region to John S. Battle GATE and Dual Enrollment English 12 students.

Culinary Arts Bake the Competition at District SkillsUSA 04-20-2016

Three girls who won a culinary competition stand beside each other. Culinary Arts students recently competed in the annual District VIII SkillsUSA Commercial Baking competition.  The competition was a timed event requiring each student to prepare multiple baked items including: yeast breads, muffins, cakes, pies, cookies and muffins.
