Larry Booher is a long-time teacher at JSB and recently his Ecology class was featured on the Glee Gum website. Glee Gum is a company which makes an all natural gum. For their use of the product and the research that went into the project, Mr. Booher and his class were selected as a "Featured Fan".

Nicolas O., a senior at the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center and a second year CISCO Networking Academy student placed third in Technical Computer Applications at the Virginia SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference and Skills Championships held April 16th in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Congratulations to Lydia B., the 2015-2016 School Calendar and Handbook Cover Art Contest Winner! Lydia just graduated from Abingdon High School and her beautiful artwork was chosen to be the cover for the 2016-2017 School Calendar and Handbook among over 300 entries. Washington County distributes over 11,000 copies of the school calendar/handbook annually throughout the county.

This Spring we are excited to announce that Washington County Public Schools have students from all four high schools receiving scholarships to perform with the Emory & Henry College Marching Band for the fall of 2016. The students were honored at individual scholarship signing ceremonies.

In January, the Mountain Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross asked for nominations for “local heroes who have saved someone else’s life, performed an act of courage or offered a valuable service to the community.” Damascus Middle School teacher Mrs. Donna Musick thought immediately of her colleague Mr. Joe Preston, for the valuable service he has provided to his history students for the past sixteen years.
