|High Point Fifth Graders Know Even, Odd, Prime, or Composite Numbers||10-18-2016||
Fifth grade students at High Point Elementary School have been learning a lot in math. Students thought they knew everything about even and odd numbers-until they started experimenting to find out what happens when you add even and odd numbers together in different combinations.

Greendale's Run Club is back up for their third year! With over forty students in grades 3-5, run club participants meet once a week for ninety minutes to prepare for a local 5k to be run on December 10th.

The fifth graders squared off by picking a team! Ms. Harman and Mr. Asbury led the Vols and Ms. Stepp led the Hokies. Students earned points by completing assignments, solving word problems, and building ramps.
|Abingdon FFA Members Compete at Virginia State Fair||10-13-2016||
Several members of the Abingdon FFA chapter competed in various contests at the Virginia State Fair held in Doswell, Virginia. The Tractor Troubleshooting Contest was held on September 23, 2016 and FFA members Bailey J. and Canan L. qualified to compete at the state contest by placing first in the area contest.
|Holston FBLA Students Participate in Leadership Conference||10-12-2016||
On Friday, October 7th, ten students from the Holston High School Future Business Leaders of America Club attended the Fall Leadership Conference at Bluefield College. The conference featured several different seminars for the students to participate in. Some of the topics for these workshops included assistance with college admissions, business etiquette, and community service project ideas, as well as many others including a student favorite, FBLA bingo.
|Watauga Elementary School is Named One of the Best Schools in the Nation||10-11-2016||
U. S. Secretary of Education John B. King, Jr., announced on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 that Watauga Elementary School has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. Watauga Elementary School is one among 279 public and 59 private schools receiving this honor.

Second graders at AES enjoyed an afternoon of learning about some special Community Helpers. Washington County’s own Deputy Nichols, along with an EMT crew, came to let the students explore the police car and ambulances.

Patrick Henry High School sophomore, Carlee T., recently competed at the State Fair of Virginia in Doswell, Virginia which was held September 30th through October 2, 2016. Carlee competed against many exhibitors from all across Virginia for awards and scholarships.

Students in Mrs. Miller’s and Mrs. Ratliff’s third grade math classes have been learning about related facts. They used their names to create their very own name fact family.
|Johnny Appleseed STEM Experiment at Valley Institute||10-06-2016||
Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Justus' Pre-K classrooms conducted two S.T.E.M. experiments on Johnny Appleseed Day. Our students learned what keeps apples freshest the longest after soaking the apple slices in vinegar, club soda, and honey water for 30 minutes.
