Wallace Middle School Students Tour Rocky Mount 07-27-2016

A group of students are gathered around a table in a cabin listening to a person speak.On May 17, 2016, Wallace Middle School students from the sixth grade took a trip back in time to tour the living history museum of Rocky Mount.  Students experienced first-hand several demonstrations of early living from the late 1700’s such as weaving, spinning, blacksmithing, cooking, long-hunting and shearing.

WMS Sixth Graders Present Their 3-D Solar Systems 07-18-2016

Many students are pictured with their solar system projects.Students in Mrs. Carrigan’s science class worked hard on their science projects during the last week of school and presented them to their classmates to show off what they had learned.  The science students had to create a 3-D solar system project following a rubric with multiple requirements.

Wallace Middle School GATE Students Visit Nashville 07-05-2016

They have created art, performed for a live audience, and experienced art in differing venues throughout the year.  Recently they were inspired by a visit to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol where they learned about the role that the Bristol Sessions played in the birth and development of country music.

CTE Center Graduate Completes Training as a Pharmacist 06-13-2016

LeAnne B., who graduated from the Washington County Career and Technical Center’s  Pharmacy Technician Program in 2011, received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.) from the Appalachian College of Pharmacy on April 30th.  LeAnne finished in the top 10% of her class and had the highest GPA in her cohort during her first semester at ACP.  ACP, located in Oakwood, Virginia, has an accelerated three year program.

WMS Introduces the Archery Club 05-25-2016

Several students holding bows and arrows.Washington County teachers and administrators attended a training course for National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) last summer.  The training also provided bows, arrows, targets, and a safety net for each school represented.

John S. Battle Class Discovers Glee Gum 05-25-2016

Glee Gum is a company which makes an all natural gum. For their use of the product and the research that went into the project, Mr. Booher and his class were selected as a "Featured Fan".

Congratulations to Lydia B., the 2015-2016 School Calendar and Handbook Cover Art Contest Winner!  Lydia just graduated from Abingdon High School and her beautiful artwork was chosen to be the cover for the 2016-2017 School Calendar and Handbook among over 300 entries.  Washington County distributes over 11,000 copies of the school calendar/handbook annually throughout the county.
