|HPES Kindergarteners Are Writing Up a Storm||05-05-2015||
Kindergarteners at High Point Elementary School are writing up a storm. Students have been working in skill based groups to build their reading and writing skills. Students work on letters and sounds, sight words, reading text, making words, writing words, punctuation, and writing sentences.
|DMS Awarded in 4-H “Share the Fun” Talent Program!||05-05-2015||
Damascus Middle School 4-H members held the annual “Share the Fun” talent program during their regular December club meeting. 42 members from the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades performed, and talent acts included dance, drama, instrumental, variety, and vocal.

Mrs. Dixie Hunter, principal of Damascus Middle School, recently received notice that DMS has been redesignated as a School to Watch! Originally recognized for this honor three years ago by the National Forum for Middle-Grades Reform, the school continues to demonstrate high performance in the areas of academic excellence, awareness of and responsiveness to the needs of adolescents, equality of education for every student, and organizational structure.

Great things are happening at Glade Spring Middle School! Mr. Kelly Holmes, Principal of Glade Spring Middle School, received word in December that GSMS has been re-designated as a School to Watch.

High Point third grade took a ride on the STEM Train learning how we use signs to communicate. Signs are forms of visual communication. They are used to give product information as well as safety information.
|WMS GATE Students Create Animal Tracks||05-01-2015||
Gate students at Wallace Middle School are on a year-long ecological quest to find out everything they can about the local creatures and environments in which they live. Wallace Middle School has partnered with Mandy Fletcher, Educational Specialist, who works for the Holston River Soil and Water Conservation District in this endeavor.
|John S. Battle Students Attend All State Band Event||05-01-2015||
During the weekend of April 10, Jesse H. & Brooke M. participated in the 2015 Virginia All State Band event held at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. They earned placement in the coveted ensemble through qualification auditions at the district level and then rigorous auditions state-wide held at James Madison University.
