Dr. Seuss was the Craze at Greendale Elementary School 04-21-2015

Students, teachers and visiting readers plunged into the world of Dr. Seuss during Read Across America Day on Monday, March 2. This is a nationwide reading event that takes place every year on Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

WES Horsin’ Around in the Music Room! 04-21-2015

Children gathered in a music room.Fifth grade students at Watauga Elementary School have been learning about “the father of American music” Stephen Collins Foster. Foster is one of the most popular composers from the 19th century composing many well know songs associated with the South such as “ Old Folks at Home”, “ Oh! Susanna”, and “My Old Kentucky Home”.

HPES Kindergarten Study Buddies 04-20-2015

A 5th Grade girl is helping 2 kindergarten boys with their work.Kindergarten is gearing up for first grade with the help of fifth grade study buddies. The fifth graders come each morning before their classes begin to listen to the little ones read books and word lists, write sentences, and to help in the preparation of the kindergarten day.

PHHS SCA Members Attend the 2015 State Convention in Williamsburg 04-20-2015

Girl stands in front of a podium.As President School of the Virginia Student Councils Association, Patrick Henry High School and Student Representative Emma B. led the 2015 State Convention in Williamsburg March 20-22. Student representatives of Patrick Henry High School, Emma B. and Chloe C., with their Student Council Advisors Amanda Chitwood and Jillian Smith, were able to meet with other Student Council groups from across the state of Virginia.

DMS Students Win at Gymnastics Meet 04-20-2015

Two students each do a split in front of tumbling mats.Recently, two Damascus Middle School students competed at the Big Dog Gymnastics Meet in Ripley, West Virginia. Eighth-grader Jenna G. won first place on Vault, first place on Balance Beam, and first place All-Around in her age division at the silver level.

Textbook Adoption Review 04-17-2015

Washington County Schools are reviewing textbooks for adoption. The school system will be adopting textbooks for Foreign Language - Spanish, French and Latin - for grades 8-12. The public is invited to review the materials at the Washington County Schools Central Office from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Patrick Henry High School FFA Welcome MES Preschool Students 04-17-2015

Boy waters plant while several students watch.On March 30, 2015, Patrick Henry High School’s FFA chapter and Mr. Scypher’s horticulture classes invited Pre-K students and their teachers from Meadowview Elementary School to learn about plants. During this event, the Pre-K students planted their very own tomato plants with the help of PHHS students and learned how to care for them.

Hoops for Hearts at Greendale Elementary 04-17-2015

The Hoops for Heart program is a fun event where students can shoot hoops, learn about how their heart works, and teach friends and family how to stay FIT FOR LIFE.
