In anticipation for our One School, One Book in October first grade teacher Ms. Jennifer Cole used her talents to get the children excited about “The One and Only Ivan”. The drawing is displayed in the library along with the book and a picture of the baby gorilla that the school adopted.

First grade students at Watauga Elementary School have started off their year in music class with lots of successful rhythm activities. First students reviewed their vocabulary word rhythm which is the long and short sounds and silences in music.

A crowd of fans turned out for the 2015 PTA Open House to meet the Rebels and kick off a new school year! Students participating in volleyball, football, band, and golf were introduced to parents, grandparents, and teachers. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the school and these young athletes. On Thursday, September 3, Watauga Elementary School third graders attended Conservation Camp at Sugar Hollow Park. It was a fun outdoor learning experience for all involved. Students rotated through stations to learn more about conserving and protecting Earth and our natural resources.

Congratulations to the following Damascus Middle School students who were selected for the 2015 Highlands Honors Choir on Thursday, September 10. The Highlands Honors Choir is the newly-renamed All-County Chorus.
|Holston Singers Selected for Highlands Honors Choir||09-15-2015||
Nine members of the Holston High School Chorus were selected for the 2015-16 Highlands Honors Choir. Tryouts were held at Abingdon High School on September 8, 2015. Over 200 students from the county’s four high schools auditioned. The Honors Choir is new this year and replaces the All-County Chorus. Components of the new choir will include a treble choir, a mens’ choir and a womens’ choir.
