High Point fifth graders are learning a lot about the rock cycle. Students are creating diagrams of the rock cycle, classifying different types of rocks, and learning how different rock transformations occur.

Greendale Elementary second graders have been developing map skills by learning about the seven continents and five oceans. What better way to learn than by having a hands-on lesson and making their very own salt dough map of the world!
|Holston High School: Two Holston Runners Race into History Books||02-06-2018||
In a rare juxtaposition, two of Holston High School's greatest runners of all time are racing their way to school records. Jordan K. and Ryland H. have gotten the attention of their coaches, their teammates, and---mostly---their competitors. Both of these scholar athletes were teammates on this year's successful 2017 Cross Country Team and will join forces again this spring on the HHS Outdoor Track Team.

The Washington County Special Education Advisory Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, February13, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.
If there is a delayed schedule due to bad weather, the meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. If school is not in session on that day, the meeting will be rescheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in the top floor conference room of the Annex Building. The meeting is open to the public. Questions regarding the meeting may be directed to Connie Phillips, Supervisor of Special Education at 739-3041.

Wallace Middle School eighth graders were given the opportunity to visit the University of Virginia College at Wise on October 21. Students were welcomed by the Chancellor, Donna Price Henry, and the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment, Rusty Necessary.

Students at Holston High School are getting a second chance at Breakfast. In addition to serving a hot breakfast before school starts, Holston High School offers what it is calling a 2nd Chance Breakfast.

Sarah Lovett, Art teacher/Cheer coach at Abingdon High recently competed in and won her division her first time competing at one of CrossFit’s biggest competitions called the Wodapalooza in Miami, Florida.
|Holston High School Chorus Students Excel at District Auditions||02-01-2018||
Six talented singers from Holston High School were recently selected for the Region Seven All District Chorus. Led by their choral director, Mrs. Sue Spirup, the HHS group were chosen from a pool of 300 others who auditioned. The tryout was held at Chilhowie High School in November.

Throughout the year, fifth grade students at High Point Elementary learn an immense amount of artistic techniques and skills that they apply to their artwork. Some of the skills they learn harken back to previous lessons and pieces, and some are brand new.

On January 24th, Watauga encouraged students and faculty to participate in celebrating the 100th day of school by donating cans of non-perishable food items to give to the local food bank.
