|Glade Spring Middle School Students Turn Over a New LEAF||12-04-2014||
On November 21, Glade Spring Middle School girls in sixth grade attended the annual STEM conference at Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. However, sixth grade boys were not left out. They had their very own LEAF (Learning and Enrichment Activities are Fun) Day.

BOOK IT! challenges principals all over the country to spend an entire day reading. On Friday, November 14, Ms. de Nobriga took that challenge and spent the entire day reading to classrooms at Abingdon Elementary School—from the front hallway showcase!
|Holston Art Class Assists Town With Christmas Celebration||12-03-2014||
Once again, the Holston High School Art Class has has stepped up to help the Town of Damascus with the celebration of a major event. The town is holding its first annual "Trail Town Christmas Festival" in the town park on Saturday, December 6th. Festivities will run from 10 AM to 7 PM and will include Christmas Tree sales, a large bonfire, food and drinks, craft booths. a costume contest, a live manger scene, caroling, and a tree lighting at the end of the night.
|Meadowview Elementary Students Pay Tribute to Our Veterans||12-02-2014||
On the evening of Tuesday, November 11th, 2014, the second grade classes at Meadowview Elementary honored all Veterans with a patriotic musical program. The students shared a musical salute with all in attendance. The program contained many traditional patriotic favorites, as well as some new selections saluting America.
|Damascus Middle School Eighth-Graders are Busin’ for Books||12-02-2014||
Damascus Middle School teacher Mrs. Robin Holmes is providing an opportunity for eighth-grade students to visit the Damascus branch of the Washington County Public Library monthly as a service learning project for her Master’s Program. Busin’ for Books began on Wednesday, October 22, and eight students traveled to the library to get library cards, learn their way around the library, and check out the selection of books and DVDs!
|Kindergarten Alphabet Exchange at Greendale Elementary||12-01-2014||
Kindergarteners from Greendale Elementary School have spent the first 9 weeks exchanging letters from the alphabet with students all across the United States and Canada. Each teacher is assigned a letter from the alphabet and their classroom students are given the assignment to decorate them.
|John S. Battle High School Receives Runner-Up in District Competition||12-01-2014||
On Tuesday, October 28, John S. Battle High School hosted the Conference 40 One Act Play Festival. JSB chose to do a dramatic play that was different than anything previously done at the school. Take A Chance by Chris Richman is an “existential quest for self-meaning”.
|Holston Students Fare Well in Senior District Competition||11-25-2014||
On Saturday November 8.2014, three of Holston High School's best singers qualified for Senior All-District Chorus. Over one hundred students from across Southwest Virginia gathered at Fort Chiswell High School for the competition.
|Out of This World Musical Experience!||11-25-2014||
Second grade students at Watauga Elementary School experienced an out of this world musical experience when they traveled to Freedom Hall in Johnson City to hear the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra perform. The concert was titled “Journey to Space” and featured songs Venus, Mars and Jupiter from Gustav’s Holst’s Planets Suite, Attack of the Clones from Star Wars, and even a medley of songs from the hit movie Frozen.

On October 31st, Wallace Middle School sixth grade students in Mrs. Copeland’s language arts class shared their novels in a book talk. The novels were carefully chosen and read during the month of October.
