2018 Annual Elementary Spelling Bee

Two students standing with two men smiling.On Thursday, December 6, 2018 spelling bee winners from the seven elementary schools competed in the annual elementary school spelling bee.

School representatives were:  Aaron H. (Abingdon Elementary), Evyn N. (Greendale Elementary), Leighlynd T. (High Point Elementary), Tyler H. (Meadowview Elementary), Sarah C. (Rhea Valley Elementary), Natalie C.. (Valley Institute Elementary), and Elizabeth N.. (Watauga Elementary).  The spelling bee was held at Rhea Valley Elementary School.  Felicia Sikes, Coordinator of Gifted Programs, Belinda Mulline, retired  Washington County Middle School Supervisor and Ted Casler, Human Resources Manager, served as judges.  Major Byron Ashbrook served as pronouncer.  After 25 rounds and 81 words, Elizabeth N. from Watauga Elementary School was declared county champion, correctly spelling "treason" and "lustrous".  Evyn N.. from Greendale Elementary was the runner up. Elizabeth is now eligible to move on to the Southern Appalachian Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held in Knoxville, TN in March. Congratulations to Elizabeth and all of our school spelling bee champions.
