Abingdon Elementary Student Wins George Washington Essay Contest

Two AES students at the Martha Washing Inn for DAR essay celebrationOn March 9th, students, parents and educators gathered at the Martha Washington Inn to celebrate the essays of fourth grade students across the county.  Abingdon Elementary was proud to honor Ella Kate B. and Ashby B. at the ceremony.

Even more exciting news emerged when Ashby was named as the county winner and he shared his essay with the audience.  To everyone's surprise, Ashby delivered his essay with the expertise of a true orator. The emotion and feelings in his speech demonstrated that he believed every word of all the wonderful things he had written about our first president, George Washington. Ashby has gone on to share his essay with several community groups such as the Washington County School Board members, Washington County Board of Supervisors and the Rotary Club. Congratulations!
