Abingdon High School sees a Dream Come True

Three young men stand in a field with a walking trail in background.Abingdon High School Falcons celebrate the shared vision, communal support, and the eventual reality of The Panicello Memorial Trail.

Working in conjunction with Appalachian Sustainable Development, Mrs. Lisa Andis’ Biology II/Ecology class selected the name for the trail and actively pursued funding, materials, and support from the community at large. These students’ exemplary work provided the initial momentum to pave the way for a shared dream.  Along with Deni Peterson, the learning landscapes manager for Appalachian Sustainable Development, the AHS club Appalachian Teen Trekkers (AT2) joined in this endeavor as advocates and volunteers for constructing the trail. AT2 members made a presentation to the Washington County School Board to obtain permission to build the public trail on school property. They also requested funding from a local Rotary Club and the Abingdon Town Council. Congratulations to all those who created a “dream come true!”
