AHS Creative Writing Class Meets Well-Known Author

Students, both male and female, sit in chairs in a conference hall with lady standing in row among them with windows in background. On April 5, Creative Writing students from Abingdon High School traveled to The University of Virginia at Wise to attend "Coffee Night" with special guest Adriana Trigiani. Many know Trigiani from her best-selling novels which include Big Stone Gap, The Shoemaker's Wife, The Supreme Macaroni Company as well as a popular Young Adult fiction series.

Trigiani began her career as a writer for The Cosby Show and A Different World. After listening to community members read pieces from the UVA-Wise literary magazine, The Jimson Weed, students enjoyed Trigiani's talk which included topics such as filming the Big Stone Gap film locally.  Afterwards, Trigiani chatted and signed books for the students. Dr. Hurd's Creative Writing classes are participants in Trigiani's Origin Project, which encourages students to write about their local heritage.
