Damascus Middle School Salutes Our Veterans
Fri, December 2, 2016
On Friday, November 11, Damascus Middle School students, faculty, and staff honored veterans with a special program and lunch. Principal Scott Keith welcomed our guests, and seventh-grader Noah S. led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Choral students, directed by Mrs. Sue Spirup, performed "We Will Not Forget" and "American Tears," two touching songs thanking the heroes who have been so important in making our nation what it is today. Mr. Joe Preston introduced Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major Chris Justice who spoke about the importance of Veterans Day as a time to honor those who fought for our freedoms. The program included a slideshow of photographs of veterans from DMS families and concluded with a Moment of Silence for the Fallen, with "Taps" played by eighth-grader Stacy D. Veterans in attendance were invited to eat lunch in the DMS cafeteria when the program ended.
