Damascus Middle School Students Perform in The Nutcracker

Two students hold a nutcracker in front of a Christmas tree.On Friday, December 12, students in Damascus Middle School’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program traveled to the Paramount Center in Bristol to see The Nutcracker, a Highlands Ballet Original Production.

This trip was particularly exciting for the students, as two of Damascus Middle School’s own eighth-graders performed in the ballet.  Anna Blake W. has been dancing for many years and played the roles of Marzipan, Snow, and Waltz of the Flowers.  Jake S. is an aspiring actor and demonstrated his swordplay techniques during the performance.  Although many of the students in the audience were familiar with Tchaikovsky’s songs from The Nutcracker, most had never seen the ballet.  Perhaps experiencing this performance will inspire some of the students to make seeing The Nutcracker part of their holiday traditions in the future!
