Four students stand in front of an FFA bulletin board.Damascus Middle School’s Small Animal Care Team, composed of Stacy D., KayLeigh H., Cortlyn K., and Baylee T., and sponsored by Agriscience teacher Mary Rhudy, won the county-wide competition on Thursday, March 17.

The team has practiced twice weekly for the last month, studying the different dog, cat, rabbit, and guinea pig breeds, as well as information about fish and birds.  The team is also responsible for learning to identify equipment used to care for small animals.  Their studying definitely prepared them well, as Baylee placed first, KayLeigh placed third, Cortlyn placed fifth, and Stacy received honorable mention in individual competition.  They will continue to area competition on April 8 at Wytheville Community College.
