GES Takes First Place In The DAR Essay Contest

Student standing at a podium with a DAR representative.Greendale Elementary fifth-grade student Baleigh B. has taken first place in the county for the 2015-2016 Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest.  In honor of the 250th anniversary of the Stamp Act, students were asked to describe a colonial family’s reaction to the new Stamp Act and what role it played in organizing the colonists against the British King and Parliament.

Baleigh wrote from the point of view of Hannah Adams one of Samuel Adams children.  Baleigh described how Samuel Adams helped formulate resistance to the British Stamp Act of 1765.  Her essay revealed the urgency of the cause and the hardships faced by the colonists and their families.  Baleigh’s essay also exposed the apprehension felt by everyone involved in the fight for equality and independence.
