Glade Spring Middle School Opens Chromebook Cafe
Mon, April 10, 2017
Instructional Technology Teacher, Tammy Martin has opened the “Chromebook Cafe” at Glade Spring Middle School. The cafe opened its doors on April 6th to seventh graders who had made prior “reservations” to attend the cafe during their exploratory period.
As students entered the cafe, they were greeted by the hostess (Ms. Martin) and were escorted to their tables. Once at their candlelit table, students enjoyed strains of music as they read the “Tasting Technology” menu and reviewed what would be offered at the Cafe in the coming weeks. The menu included an “appetizer” which offered up something in technology to whet student appetites and would later include a review. The “main dish” portion of the menu listed technology skills that the students would focus on and the “dessert” section offered up a fun activity to close out each lesson. The tasty menu will linger with the students as they will use the online version of the cafe through Google Classroom to extend what they have learned at school. The main focus of the Chromebook Cafe is to assist 7th graders with using Google Apps for Education and prepare them for using more Google products/apps they enter 8th grade.
