Glade Spring Middle School, Somebody is Going to Have a Cow!
Thu, April 9, 2015
Glade Spring Middle School has a vision of service to others. The students and staff welcome opportunities to help people in both big and small ways. Seventh grade math teacher, Mrs. Lisa Mercer introduced the idea of the Heifer International project. Since 1944, Heifer International has worked to bring help, healing, and hope to millions of impoverished families worldwide.
Heifer International works in the areas of livestock and agriculture to develop programs that alleviate hunger and poverty. At the beginning of the school year, students were encouraged to drop their spare change in milk jugs during their lunch periods. The motto for the project was “Collecting Change…Changing Lives”. Over the course of the year, the school raised a total of $265.31 which will be matched by a donation from a family cattle farm here in Glade Spring. We raised enough money to donate one heifer to a country in desperate need. Seventh grade won the contest between grades and will be awarded an extra recess opportunity with a dairy treat of ice cream. Seventh grade student, Kaycee D. raised the most money. Congratulations, Glade Spring Middle School! You are going to be Giving Some Milk Soon to those in need!
