Greendale Elementary Third and Fourth Graders finish 2nd Step Life Skills Training

An adult instructor, holding up a booklet, is speaking with a group of fourth grade boys and girls as they sit in chairs in the forum.The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, established in 1999 by the Virginia General Assembly, promotes healthy living habits and reduces and prevents youth tobacco use and childhood obesity statewide. Kelly Thomas from Highlands Community Services led the eight weeks course of 2nd Step Life Skills Training for the third and fourth graders at GES.

Life Skills training focuses on promoting health and personal development. This training highlighted topics ranging from smoking prevention to building self-esteem and decision making. Student participated in group discussions, interesting activities and worked independently in a student guide provided for each student. Ultimately, students completing this program will be learning skills that will make them a stronger person and allow them to stay healthy for the rest of their lives.
