High Point Students Make Global Connections
Mon, October 20, 2014
Fifth grade students at High Point Elementary sent letters, once again, to their pen pals in Copey, Costa Rica. After receiving letters from their friends at the Copey Learning Center, students planned their writing and discussed questions and issues they hope to address as they continue communicating throughout the year.
Students included information about their typical school day, favorite foods, and pets they own. They also wrote about things they enjoy such as music, art, and sports. Students collected school supplies and books to include in a care package that was sent along with the letters. Fifth graders are excited to hear back from the students in Costa Rica and anxiously await the envelope that will contain the next round of pen pal letters, as many High Point students asked their pals to write back to them in Spanish and in English. Plans for future connections include writing a song for their friends and designing a collage of photographs.
