Holston High School Business Department Receives High National Recognition
Fri, May 12, 2017
HHS Business Teachers Joy Munsey and Sammy Campbell recently traveled to New York City to be recognized by a national professional credentialing organization. Both teachers use the Working in Support of Education (W!SE) program to help their students gain a credential that gives them verified credit in their classes. The ceremony, held at the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank on April 19th, brought together the top performing schools and teachers in the nation.
Mrs. Munsey is no stranger to the W!SE certification and the annual celebration. She has been using their system with her students for five years. She was the first teacher in Washington County and one of the first in Virginia to offer it to her classes. She has found the system to be a useful tool that helps her students make sense of sometimes complicated financial subjects. During the ceremony, Holston was honored with a large trophy known as the Silver Cup. The cup was given to the five high schools in the nation who had demonstrated the best performance on the exam every year since 2012. In addition to the Silver Anniversary Award, HHS placed 6th in the nation and 3rd in Virginia for their performance on the test last Spring. A total of 46 states use W!SE as their assessment of record.
Holston High School is extremely proud of Mrs. Munsey and Mr. Campbell and commends them for their well-deserved recognition.
